Sanford's Smokehouse Fills Niche in Pawleys Island

There's a buzz in the Pawleys Island community about Sanford's Smokehouse, which recently opened at 251 Willbrook Blvd., in Mingo. The owners have done some market research and discovered that what is not needed is more of the same in Pawleys Island. Sanford's specialty is gourmet, smoked meat...a first for this area.

Since I come from the BBQ Capitol, Memphis, Tennessee, I've been looking for a place nearby that reminds me of Tennessee Q.

Although I have not tried Sanford's, based on what I am hearing, Chef Rob Doerr has got it goin on! Yep, they are smoking beef brisket, salmon, prime rib over real hickory.

Check back in a few days, cause I'm headin to Sanford's for a little taste. I'll let ya know. If you've already been to Sanford's Smokehouse, please reply to this blog.

We recently returned for a second visit to Sanford's Smokehouse in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. It was just as good as the first time and even better. My favorite vegetables are still collards and black eyed peas. (it's a southern thang) I had smoked salmon as my entree and it was theeeeee best. If you try it, I hope you enjoy.

Heard about your restaurant & was very excited to come & give it a try, for Valentines Day, but we got there & found out you are closed on Mondays. We will try again soon, maybe this wk. end. Looking forward to a fabulous meal.

Had dinner there last night (2/9/11) and we got much better than we expected. My wife had smoked beef brisket, fresh yellow squash and bacon grilled green beans. I had the small cut of smoked prime rib, collards and black eyed peas. The meal was excellent. The meat was tender, flavorful...in fact, it was the best we ever had. Rob, owner and chef, was kind enough to spend some time giving us the inside look at his smoker. There is no doubt, based on the quality of food and price, Sanford's is a winner. I am writing Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives to see if they will visit and do story for the Food Channel.
